Frequently Asked Questions

Does Govee work offline with Home Assistant?

Yes, newer Govee WiFi lights (firmware 1.00.10+) support local LAN control and work offline with Home Assistant. Enable the 'LAN Control' toggle in the Govee Home app, and the official Govee Lights Local integration will discover them. However, older devices without LAN Control support require cloud connectivity.

Why is Govee marked as 'partial' compatibility?

Govee has mixed compatibility because: (1) Older WiFi devices don't support local control and require cloud, (2) Bluetooth lights aren't supported by the official integration, (3) Scenes and effects have limited support without HACS add-ons. Newer WiFi lights with LAN Control work great locally, but the ecosystem as a whole isn't fully local like Philips Hue or LIFX.

Which Govee products work locally with Home Assistant?

WiFi lights with firmware version 1.00.10 or newer support local control, including LED strips (H6xxx series), bulbs (H60xx series), floor/table lamps (H61xx series), string lights (H70xx series), and neon/decor (H80xx series). Bluetooth devices and older WiFi models (firmware 1.00.01) are cloud-dependent or require HACS integrations.

Can I use Govee light effects in Home Assistant?

The official Govee Lights Local integration supports basic on/off, brightness, and color control but has limited scene/effect support. For full access to DIY scenes, music modes, and individual segment control, install Govee2MQTT via HACS. You'll need a free Govee API key from the app.

Is Govee worth it for Home Assistant users?

Govee offers excellent value with affordable RGB lighting and good local control on newer models. It's worth it if you buy newer WiFi products with LAN Control support and don't need advanced effects in automations. For the best Home Assistant experience with full local control, consider Philips Hue or LIFX, but Govee is a solid budget-friendly option.
