August Lock + Home Assistant

1. Prerequisites

2. Bridge Requirements

Not all August locks have built-in Wi-Fi. Check which hardware you need:

3. Integration Setup

Step 1: Verify Lock in App

Ensure your lock is fully set up and controllable from the August or Yale Access app.

Step 2: Add Integration

1. Go to Settings → Devices & Services
2. Click + Add Integration
3. Search for August
4. If auto-discovered, click Configure

Step 3: Authenticate

1. Enter your August account email and password
2. Enter the 2FA verification code sent to your phone

7. Troubleshooting

Lock Not Responding

• Check if lock is reachable in the August app
• Verify August Connect Bridge is online (if required)

Battery Level Wrong

• Gen 4 Wi-Fi locks have known battery reporting issues
• Using rechargeable batteries causes incorrect readings in older locks
• Use only alkaline AA batteries in non-Gen 4 locks

Slow Updates

• Doorbell and lock operation sensors don't support real-time push
• Updates may be delayed until the next polling cycle
• Bluetooth integration provides faster local updates

Offline Keys Not Working

• The cloud integration needs to sync offline keys
• Try configuring with different Owner account
• Create a new owner account and grant lock access
